Advent has acquired New Zealand Clinical Research (NZCR) for an undisclosed amount, taking full ownership of the contract research organization. The transaction, completed under terms that were not made public, transfers NZCR’s operations and assets to Advent, which will now oversee the company’s strategic direction and day-to-day management.

NZCR was formed in mid-2020 through the merger of Auckland Clinical Studies and Christchurch Clinical Studies Trust, bringing together two established early-phase clinical research units. The company operates with more than 34 years of combined research experience, providing expanded scale and capabilities for Phase I and II trials. Its work supports the development of new treatments by testing safety and tolerability in healthy volunteers and patient groups, with a focus on delivering better therapeutic options for populations in New Zealand and internationally.

For Advent, the acquisition adds a specialized clinical research platform to its portfolio, giving the firm direct access to NZCR’s established trial infrastructure and its network of investigators across two New Zealand sites. The purchase is intended to strengthen Advent’s position in the clinical services sector, where demand for outsourced early-phase testing continues to grow. NZCR’s existing capabilities in complex trial designs and its regulatory experience in New Zealand are expected to complement Advent’s broader service offerings, though specific integration plans have not been disclosed.

The deal also carries implications for New Zealand’s clinical research landscape. With Advent’s backing, NZCR may be able to invest in additional capacity, expand patient recruitment efforts, and pursue a wider range of sponsor partnerships. The company’s dual-site structure, inherited from the 2020 merger, provides a foundation for scaling operations without requiring new facilities.

Post-acquisition, NZCR will continue to operate under its existing name, with its current leadership team expected to remain in place to manage day-to-day activities. Advent’s ownership is likely to bring greater financial resources and operational oversight, which could accelerate the company’s growth trajectory. The combined entity will focus on maintaining trial quality while exploring new opportunities in the Asia-Pacific region, where clinical research activity has been steadily increasing.
