Novartis India has acquired Mini-Press S.r.l., the Bologna-based manufacturer of hydraulic testing equipment, for an undisclosed amount. The transaction transfers full ownership of the Italian company to Novartis India, marking the completion of a deal that had been under negotiation in recent months. Mini-Press will operate as a wholly owned unit of the Indian pharmaceutical group, though its existing production facility and brand name will remain intact.
Mini-Press, founded in 1991, specializes in diagnostic systems for pressure control and monitoring of fluids within hydraulic systems. Its product line includes miniaturized test couplings, threaded valves, micro hoses, adapters, and measurement devices, all designed for rapid pressure checks on hydraulic equipment. The company has built a global reputation for reliability, supported by continuous investment in technology and staff training. Novartis India, primarily known for its pharmaceutical operations, does not currently manufacture hydraulic testing tools, making this acquisition a diversification into industrial instrumentation.
The strategic rationale centers on vertical integration. Novartis India’s existing manufacturing processes rely on precise hydraulic systems for equipment maintenance and quality control. By acquiring Mini-Press, the buyer gains direct access to proprietary diagnostic components and engineering expertise, reducing its dependence on third-party suppliers for critical testing tools. For Mini-Press, the deal provides access to Novartis India’s extensive distribution network across Asia, potentially expanding its customer base beyond its traditional European and North American markets.
The acquisition is expected to yield operational efficiencies through shared research and development in pressure-sensing technologies, as well as cost savings in procurement of raw materials. Novartis India plans to retain Mini-Press’s current workforce and management team to preserve its specialized knowledge and customer relationships. No changes to Mini-Press’s product portfolio or service agreements have been announced.
The combined entity will now offer both pharmaceutical products and industrial hydraulic diagnostics, a pairing that leverages Novartis India’s scale with Mini-Press’s niche technical capabilities. Market observers will watch whether the Indian parent integrates the Italian unit’s tools into its own facilities first, before pursuing broader commercial sales. The deal closes a chapter of independent growth for Mini-Press, while opening a new phase under corporate ownership with a clear focus on cross-sector application of its measurement technology.
