Mattel, Inc. has acquired Mattel163 for an undisclosed amount, bringing the successful mobile game studio fully under its corporate umbrella. Mattel163, founded in 2017 as a joint venture between Mattel and Chinese internet giant NetEase, has established itself as a leading developer of highly engaging mobile games for a global audience.
The studio employs nearly 300 talented individuals across offices in Los Angeles and Hangzhou. With a player base exceeding 550 million to date, Mattel163 is responsible for popular titles such as UNO!™ Mobile, Phase 10: World Tour, and Skip-Bo™ Mobile. Its portfolio includes games developed from iconic Mattel toy IPs, alongside its own original intellectual properties, demonstrating its capability in both licensed and proprietary content creation.
This acquisition represents a strategic move for Mattel, Inc. to deepen its direct engagement in the digital entertainment sector. By fully integrating Mattel163, the iconic toy company gains complete control over its mobile gaming strategy and development, allowing for more seamless alignment between its physical toy brands and their digital counterparts. The move is expected to enhance Mattel’s ability to leverage its extensive portfolio of iconic IPs in the rapidly growing mobile gaming market.
The full integration of Mattel163 is anticipated to create significant synergies, enabling Mattel to accelerate innovation and expand its global digital footprint. The combined entity is poised to further connect the world through play, delivering immersive gaming experiences that complement Mattel’s core mission and reach a broader audience across various platforms.
