Callstack has acquired Margelo for $20.0 million, a transaction that consolidates two prominent players in the React Native development ecosystem. The deal, finalized this week, brings Margelo’s specialized engineering team under Callstack’s corporate umbrella, marking a definitive shift in the competitive landscape for cross-platform mobile development services.
Margelo, a high-end app development and consulting agency, has built a reputation for full-stack cross-platform work using React Native. Its portfolio includes short-term contracts focused on performance optimizations, animations, and bug fixes, as well as complete application builds from the ground up. The agency has counted Facebook, Shopify, Red Bull, Coinbase, Discord, and VSCO among its clients. Callstack, for its part, operates as a React Native consultancy and product development firm, offering similar services but with a broader enterprise focus.
The acquisition is a direct response to the growing demand for specialized React Native expertise. By absorbing Margelo, Callstack gains immediate access to a team known for tackling complex, performance-critical mobile challenges. This move allows Callstack to deepen its technical bench without the lengthy process of recruiting and training new specialists internally. For Margelo, the transaction provides the financial stability and operational scale of a larger organization, which can support longer-term client engagements and internal research.
The combined entity will operate under the Callstack brand, with Margelo’s engineers integrated into existing project teams. Clients of both firms can expect continuity in ongoing work, while new projects will benefit from a larger pool of senior developers. The deal also consolidates open-source contributions, as both companies have historically maintained active libraries and tools for the React Native community.
With the integration underway, the merged company is positioned to take on larger, multi-year contracts that previously exceeded the capacity of either firm individually. The focus now shifts to harmonizing engineering processes and client communication standards across the two teams.
