Mubadala has acquired Luckin Coffee for an undisclosed amount, bringing the Chinese coffee chain under the ownership of the Abu Dhabi-based investment group. The deal transfers control of Luckin’s technology-driven retail operations to Mubadala, ending the company’s run as an independently held business.
Luckin Coffee, founded in 2017 and based in Beijing and Xiamen, operates an online-offline retail model built on mobile and store networks. Its app and third-party platform presence cover the entire purchase process, offering a cashier-less environment. Its stores include pick-up locations, relax stores, and delivery kitchens. Technology underpins customer engagement, storefront operations, and supply chain management, with big data analytics and AI used to refine systems and maintain quality control.
Mubadala gains a coffee business whose value rests on its integrated mobile platform and dense store network. The acquisition gives the investment group a direct stake in China’s coffee market and a retail model designed for convenience and operating efficiency. Luckin gains an owner with the capacity to support its technology and store expansion over the long term.
The two businesses are expected to combine Mubadala’s investment resources with Luckin’s operational platform. The priority will be integrating ownership while preserving Luckin’s app-driven customer experience and supply chain systems. The combined entity’s performance will depend on how effectively it sustains Luckin’s growth and technology investment under new ownership.
