Telefónica has acquired Lineox, the owner and operator of a significant radio link network across Spain, for an undisclosed amount. This strategic move sees Telefónica re-integrate a critical piece of infrastructure that Lineox had previously acquired from Telefónica itself. The transaction underscores Telefónica's commitment to strengthening its core network capabilities and ensuring comprehensive connectivity throughout the Spanish territory.

Lineox, established by Asterion Industrial Partners, owns a robust network of 10,800 radio links. This infrastructure is vital for guaranteeing connectivity, particularly where fiber optic and cable installations are not present. Lineox leverages advanced microwave link technology to deliver highly secure, reliable, and robust services, characterized by low deployment costs and rapid installation. Its primary business involves providing wholesale connectivity to major mobile operators' base stations, offering backhaul for FTTH operators in rural regions, and delivering point-to-point Ethernet connectivity to large enterprises. The network supports data circuits up to 2 Gbps symmetric, with ongoing efforts to enhance these capabilities.

The acquisition of Lineox is a significant strategic step for Telefónica. By buying back this extensive radio link network, Telefónica regains direct control over essential infrastructure that complements its existing fiber and mobile networks. This integration is expected to enhance Telefónica's ability to provide seamless and resilient connectivity, especially in geographically challenging or underserved areas. The robust and cost-effective nature of Lineox's microwave technology will further bolster Telefónica's network resilience and expand its reach.

Expected synergies include operational efficiencies through the full integration of Lineox's network into Telefónica's broader infrastructure. This will allow Telefónica to optimize network management, improve service delivery, and potentially reduce operational expenditures. The re-acquisition also positions Telefónica to better serve its diverse customer base, from mobile operators requiring backhaul to enterprises needing high-speed point-to-point connections, by leveraging a fully owned and controlled network.

Looking ahead, the combined entity is poised to deliver enhanced connectivity solutions across Spain, reinforcing Telefónica's position as a leading telecommunications provider. This acquisition is set to improve network quality and expand coverage, ultimately benefiting consumers and businesses throughout the country.
