EllisDon has acquired Hardline Engineering Ltd., a power and energy engineering firm, for an undisclosed amount. The deal brings the specialized electrical engineering contractor under the umbrella of one of Canada’s largest construction and building services companies, expanding EllisDon’s capabilities beyond its traditional building and infrastructure work.

Hardline Engineering, based in Canada, provides a full spectrum of power-related services, including transmission and distribution lines, substations, industrial systems, renewables and interconnections, streetlighting, and underground residential power. The firm also offers owners engineering, system studies, GIS and land services, and stakeholder engagement. With a team of over 100 engineers and project delivery specialists, Hardline serves clients across North America, focusing on quality and competitive pricing from project inception through to ongoing maintenance support.

For EllisDon, the acquisition is a strategic move to deepen its presence in the electrical and power infrastructure sector. As demand grows for grid modernization, renewable energy connections, and electrification projects, EllisDon gains immediate access to Hardline’s technical expertise and established client relationships. The purchase allows EllisDon to offer integrated solutions that pair its construction management strength with Hardline’s specialized power engineering knowledge, particularly for complex projects that require both civil and electrical delivery.

The combined entity is expected to pursue larger, cross-disciplinary mandates, particularly in utility-scale renewables and grid interconnections, where Hardline’s technical depth can complement EllisDon’s project scale. Hardline’s existing leadership and staff are anticipated to remain in place, preserving the firm’s client-focused culture while gaining access to EllisDon’s broader resources and financial backing. The acquisition positions the two companies to respond more effectively to the accelerating shift toward cleaner energy infrastructure across North America.
