Assisi Pet Care has acquired Forthglade Natural Pet Food, a B Corp certified producer of natural dog food, for an undisclosed amount. The deal transfers ownership of the Devon-based company to Assisi Pet Care, which expands its portfolio of pet nutrition brands through the acquisition.
Forthglade was established in 1971 by a group of Devon pet owners who sought higher-quality alternatives to the conventional pet food available at the time. The company became an early UK pioneer in natural wet pet foods, and in 2018 it moved into a purpose-built factory on the edge of Dartmoor National Park. Its recipes use locally and UK-sourced ingredients, with a focus on wholesome meals free from fillers and artificial additives. The company retains its B Corp certification, reflecting its commitment to social and environmental standards.
Assisi Pet Care, the acquiring entity, operates in the pet care sector and has been building a portfolio of complementary brands. The acquisition of Forthglade adds a well-established natural food line to its holdings, strengthening its position in the premium pet nutrition segment. For Assisi, the deal provides access to Forthglade’s manufacturing facility and its established supply chain rooted in UK agriculture.
The strategic rationale centres on combining Assisi’s distribution and operational scale with Forthglade’s product heritage and brand reputation. Forthglade’s existing customer base and its focus on natural ingredients are expected to complement Assisi’s broader offerings, while the Devon factory continues to serve as the production hub. No changes to Forthglade’s product range or its sourcing practices have been announced.
The combined entity will operate with Forthglade’s manufacturing capabilities under Assisi’s ownership, with the brand’s Devon identity expected to remain intact. The acquisition positions Assisi to broaden its reach in the natural pet food market, while Forthglade gains access to additional resources for potential growth.
