Enovis has acquired eCential Robotics for $179.9 million, completing a transaction that brings the Grenoble-based surgical robotics developer under the ownership of the US medical technology group. The deal, which has been finalized, adds eCential Robotics’ proprietary platform to Enovis’ existing portfolio of orthopedic and reconstructive products.
eCential Robotics specializes in a unified surgical system that combines 2D and 3D robotic imaging, real-time navigation, and robotic assistance in a single platform. Designed for orthopedic and neurosurgical procedures, the technology supports minimally invasive operations and is compatible with implants from any manufacturer. The company holds 100 patents and seven trademarks, and it designs and manufactures all of its equipment at its facility in Grenoble, France. It was recognized in 2018 by Bpifrance’s Global Innovation Challenge.
For Enovis, the acquisition is intended to strengthen its position in the surgical robotics segment, an area where the company has been expanding its capabilities. The purchase gives Enovis access to a technology that is already in clinical use and that can be integrated with its broader offerings in bone healing and reconstructive surgery. The open-platform design of eCential Robotics’ system is a particular point of interest, as it allows surgeons to use the technology without being locked into a single implant supplier.
The transaction is expected to broaden Enovis’ product line and support its growth in Europe and beyond. eCential Robotics will continue to operate from Grenoble, preserving its engineering and production base. The combined entity will focus on commercializing the robotic platform across more markets while maintaining the French company’s development pipeline.
