ALDI SÜD HOLDING

ALDI SÜD HOLDING has acquired DALI Everyday Grocery, Southeast Asia’s first and fastest-growing hard discounter, for an undisclosed amount. The transaction brings the Philippine grocery chain under the ownership of the German retail group, which operates one of the world’s largest discount supermarket networks. DALI will continue to run its existing operations, but its ownership now rests with ALDI SÜD.

DALI Everyday Grocery, headquartered in Zug, Switzerland, operates exclusively in the Philippines, where it has built a network of neighbourhood stores since its launch in February 2020. The company offers a curated assortment of 550 products covering roughly 95% of daily household needs, with prices positioned 20-30% below traditional grocery retail. It employs more than 8,000 Filipinos in permanent roles and opens approximately 30 new stores per month, creating between 180 and 240 jobs with each expansion cycle. Its investor base previously included the Asian Development Bank, Creador, Navegar, Venturi Partners, Pavilion Capital, and DEG.

For ALDI SÜD, the acquisition provides a direct entry into one of Southeast Asia’s fastest-growing consumer markets. The Philippines has seen rising demand for value-oriented grocery formats, and DALI’s hard discount model aligns closely with ALDI SÜD’s core operating principles of limited assortment, low overhead, and consistent pricing. The deal gives the German group an established local platform with proven store economics and a supply chain tailored to Filipino consumer habits, rather than requiring a from-scratch market entry.

The acquisition is expected to accelerate DALI’s store expansion and supplier network development. ALDI SÜD brings decades of international sourcing expertise and private-label development capability, which could broaden DALI’s product range while maintaining its price advantage. For suppliers, the deal may open access to a larger procurement organisation, though DALI’s existing model of high-volume, limited-SKU listings is likely to remain intact. The combined entity will now operate with the financial backing and operational know-how of a global retail leader, positioning it to deepen its presence across the Philippines while retaining its local management focus.
