Centro Software has acquired Corem for an undisclosed amount. The transaction, finalized this week, transfers full ownership of the Quebec-based mineral processing research center to the software developer, marking a definitive shift in Corem’s operational structure.
Corem operates as a center of expertise and innovation in mineral processing, housing the largest concentration of resources dedicated to research and development in this field in Canada. Its extensive equipment and infrastructure support ore characterization, process development and optimisation, and pilot testing in mineral separation and hydrometallurgy. Centro Software, by contrast, builds digital solutions for industrial operations, focusing on data management and process control systems.
The acquisition is strategic for Centro Software, which gains direct access to Corem’s specialized laboratories and pilot-scale facilities. This allows the software firm to test and refine its process control applications against real-world mineral processing challenges, shortening the feedback loop between software development and industrial application. For Corem, the deal provides a stable corporate parent with a clear commercial pathway to deploy its research outputs into operational software tools.
The combined entity will integrate Corem’s metallurgical expertise with Centro Software’s digital platforms, aiming to offer clients a more seamless transition from ore testing to plant optimisation. The two teams will remain in their current roles, with Corem’s research agenda continuing under the new ownership. No changes to existing client contracts or ongoing pilot projects have been announced.
With the acquisition complete, the focus now shifts to how quickly the two organizations can align their technical roadmaps. Centro Software’s ability to commercialize Corem’s research findings will likely determine the deal’s long-term value, particularly as mining companies seek more efficient ways to process complex ores. The integration process is expected to unfold over the coming quarters.
