Visa has agreed to acquire BioCatch for $2.4 billion, according to a report by FF News. The report states that BioCatch reached a definitive agreement in August 2026 to be acquired by Visa, in a move designed to integrate BioCatch's AI-driven fraud detection capabilities into Visa's global payments network.

BioCatch specialises in behavioural biometrics used to identify illicit activity, and its expertise is frequently sought to analyse the evolution of impersonation scams and the impact of generative AI on criminal efficiency, the report said.

The transaction was reported in the context of a formal partnership between the United Kingdom and Cambodia to dismantle the financial infrastructure supporting online scam centres. That agreement establishes a framework for closer cooperation targeting criminal syndicates operating large-scale online scam compounds, focusing on intelligence sharing, direct enforcement actions and disruption of financial flows, as well as improved support for victims of human trafficking coerced into working in the centres.

Jonathan Frost, Director of Global Advisory at BioCatch, said the scam centre model is changing quickly, with criminal networks moving towards more distributed cell structures networked through coordinating entities that are harder to locate and disrupt. He said agentic AI will likely accelerate that transition as criminals automate more of the scam process, from writing scripts to contacting and manipulating victims, and do more with fewer people.

According to Lord Hanson, Minister for Fraud at the UK Government, more than two-thirds of all fraud affecting the UK currently originates from overseas.
