Zhejiang Huayou Cobalt Co.,Ltd has acquired Atlantic Lithium Limited for an undisclosed amount. This corporate acquisition sees the Chinese cobalt and battery materials producer take ownership of Atlantic Lithium, an AIM, ASX, GSE, and OTCID-listed company focused on developing its flagship Ewoyaa Lithium Project in Ghana. The transaction marks a significant move to secure a direct stake in a key upstream lithium asset.
Atlantic Lithium is advancing the Ewoyaa Lithium Project towards production, aiming to establish Ghana's first lithium-producing mine. A Definitive Feasibility Study for the project indicates the potential for 3.6 million tonnes of spodumene concentrate production over a 12-year mine life, positioning it as one of the largest spodumene concentrate mines globally. The project, which secured a Mining Lease in October 2023, is also being developed under an earn-in agreement with Piedmont Lithium Inc. Beyond Ewoyaa, Atlantic Lithium holds a portfolio of lithium projects across Ghana and Côte d'Ivoire.
The acquisition is strategically significant for Zhejiang Huayou Cobalt, a major player in the global battery materials supply chain. By acquiring Atlantic Lithium, Zhejiang Huayou Cobalt gains direct control over a substantial and near-term source of lithium, a critical raw material for electric vehicle batteries.
