Munich Re has acquired At-Bay for $575.0 million. The transaction, completed through Munich Re’s primary insurance operations, brings the cyber-focused InsurSec provider under the reinsurer’s direct ownership. At-Bay will operate as a standalone entity within Munich Re’s broader portfolio, preserving its brand and management structure.
At-Bay, founded to combine cyber insurance with proprietary security technology, offers full-stack coverage across Cyber, Tech E&O, and Miscellaneous Professional Liability. Its platform integrates continuous risk assessment with policy underwriting, a model that has attracted backing from investors including Acrew Capital, Lightspeed Venture Partners, and Khosla Ventures. Munich Re, a global reinsurance group, has long provided capacity to At-Bay as a carrier partner. The acquisition converts that relationship into full ownership, giving Munich Re direct control over a technology-driven underwriting platform.
The strategic rationale centers on Munich Re’s desire to deepen its capabilities in cyber risk, a line that continues to grow in complexity and demand. By owning At-Bay, Munich Re gains access to proprietary data and analytics that inform real-time risk pricing and loss prevention. For At-Bay, the deal provides financial stability and access to Munich Re’s global distribution network, which could accelerate its expansion beyond current hubs in Atlanta, New York City, San Francisco, and Tel Aviv.
The acquisition also aligns with Munich Re’s broader push into specialty insurance segments where data and technology play a decisive role. At-Bay’s existing policyholder base and underwriting tools will remain intact, while Munich Re can integrate these assets into its own risk frameworks. No changes to At-Bay’s leadership or operational footprint have been announced.
With the transaction closed, the combined entity is positioned to scale cyber insurance offerings across more markets and refine risk models using a larger data pool. Munich Re’s balance sheet strength may also allow At-Bay to pursue product innovation without the constraints of external fundraising. The near-term focus will be on integrating systems and expanding distribution, with the expectation that At-Bay’s technology becomes a core component of Munich Re’s cyber strategy.
