PayTabs Global has acquired Amazon Payment Services for $100 million, a cash and stock transaction that transfers the MENA-focused payment gateway from the e-commerce giant to the regional fintech firm. The deal, which has closed following regulatory approvals, gives PayTabs Global full ownership of Amazon Payment Services’ operations, technology, and merchant relationships across the Middle East and North Africa.
Amazon Payment Services provides online payment processing for businesses in the MENA region, offering a secure gateway designed to help merchants accept transactions and grow their digital presence. PayTabs Global, a payment solutions provider, operates its own platform for businesses of various sizes. The acquisition brings together two payment infrastructures that have historically served overlapping but distinct merchant bases, with Amazon Payment Services having a strong footprint among enterprises and government entities, while PayTabs Global has focused on small and medium-sized businesses.
The strategic rationale centers on scale. By absorbing Amazon Payment Services, PayTabs Global gains access to a broader network of merchants and a more established brand in key markets such as the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, and Egypt. The combined entity will process a higher volume of transactions, which can improve pricing power with banks and card networks. PayTabs Global also inherits Amazon Payment Services’ compliance and security frameworks, which are built to meet regional regulatory standards, potentially reducing the time needed to enter new markets.
For Amazon, the sale allows the company to exit a non-core financial services operation while retaining its primary e-commerce and cloud businesses in the region. Amazon Payment Services will continue to operate under its existing name for a transition period, with PayTabs Global planning to integrate the two platforms over the coming months. Merchants currently using Amazon Payment Services are expected to see no immediate disruption to their payment processing.
The combined company will now rank among the larger independent payment processors in the MENA region, with a merchant base spanning from small online retailers to large public sector entities. The integration of two separate technology stacks and customer support teams will be the primary operational challenge, and the success of that process will determine whether the acquisition delivers the market share gains PayTabs Global is pursuing.
