La Caisse de dépôt et placement du Québec (CDPQ), a global investment group, has acquired Altius, India’s leading telecom infrastructure platform, for an undisclosed amount. The transaction marks the full takeover of Altius by the Canadian institutional investor, which had previously held a stake in the company through its investment in the platform’s parent entity. This move transfers complete ownership and operational control of Altius to CDPQ.

Altius operates a portfolio of more than 258,000 telecom sites across 22 telecom circles in India, including over 7,600 in-building and small cell solutions. The company provides digital infrastructure supporting technologies from 2G to 5G, as well as IoT, small cells, and AI applications. Its offerings range from macro towers, including ground-based and rooftop towers, to cell on wheels, camouflage towers, and power and space solutions for mobile network operators. CDPQ, based in Québec, manages funds for public pension and insurance plans and has been an active investor in infrastructure assets globally.

The acquisition is strategic for CDPQ as it consolidates its position in India’s rapidly expanding digital connectivity market. By taking full ownership of Altius, CDPQ gains direct control over a critical asset base that serves the country’s growing demand for data and mobile services. For Altius, the deal provides access to long-term capital and the operational backing of a seasoned infrastructure investor, which can support the expansion of its tower network and the rollout of next-generation solutions.

The combined entity is expected to benefit from CDPQ’s experience in managing large-scale infrastructure portfolios, while Altius continues to operate under its existing management team. The focus will be on strengthening network coverage and capacity to meet the needs of telecom operators as 5G adoption accelerates across India. The transaction also aligns with CDPQ’s broader strategy of investing in essential infrastructure that supports economic growth. With this acquisition, the platform is positioned to play a more prominent role in advancing digital inclusion and technological innovation in the region.
