Heartland A/S has acquired Copenhagen-based aiayu for an undisclosed amount. This corporate acquisition brings the brand, known for its commitment to natural materials and craftsmanship, under new ownership. aiayu, founded in 2005 by Creative Director Maria Høgh Heilmann, has built a reputation for creating wardrobe pieces designed for longevity, rooted in a materials-first philosophy and a Scandinavian sensitivity. The brand’s name, meaning “soul” in Aymara, reflects its deep connection to thoughtful sourcing and production.
The acquisition represents a strategic integration for Heartland A/S, adding a brand with a strong ethical foundation and a distinct market position to its holdings. aiayu’s unwavering commitment to pure, natural fibres, best-in-class manufacturing practices, and durability resonates with evolving consumer preferences for sustainable luxury. This move is expected to foster operational efficiencies and provide aiayu with enhanced resources for continued growth and market expansion, while preserving its core identity and values. The synergy between aiayu’s established brand equity and Heartland A/S’s broader operational capabilities is central to this transaction.
aiayu develops its collections in close collaboration with producers and artisans across Bolivia, India, Nepal, and Europe, emphasizing nature’s own colour palette. Its materials-first approach allows the fibres to guide the designs, complementing the brand’s aesthetic. Currently, aiayu operates four stores in Copenhagen and one in Aarhus, with its home in the historic former Post and Telegraph building at Indiakaj 2. Beyond its home market, aiayu is distributed through carefully selected retail partners internationally.
The combined entity is positioned to further cultivate aiayu’s unique approach to design and production. This new chapter is anticipated to support the brand’s mission of creating enduring pieces, potentially broadening its global reach, and reinforcing its commitment to responsible practices within the fashion industry. The focus will remain on the brand’s distinctive qualities and its established relationships with global artisans.
