Nikkei Asia has acquired Adani Airport Holdings Ltd for $1.0 billion, in a deal that transfers control of India’s largest private airport operator to the media group.
Adani Airport Holdings operates eight passenger airports across seven states, including Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Jaipur, Lucknow, Guwahati, Thiruvananthapuram, and Mangaluru. The company combines passenger amenities with digital systems and operates fuel farms and other infrastructure. It also runs Adani Airport City, which develops hospitality-led mixed-use destinations around its gateways. Nikkei Asia is a media organisation, and the purchase places an airport operator with retail, food and beverage, and urban development operations under its ownership.
The acquisition gives Nikkei Asia direct ownership of airport infrastructure and related commercial operations. For Adani Airport Holdings, the sale ends its period as a standalone private operator and places its portfolio under new ownership. The combined entity will bring together the airport operator’s network and development projects with Nikkei Asia’s ownership and oversight.
The two businesses will now operate under common ownership, with Adani Airport Holdings’ existing airport and Airport City operations continuing as part of the larger group. The combined entity will focus on integrating the airport portfolio into Nikkei Asia’s structure while maintaining services across the eight airports and ongoing development projects.
