Limbach has acquired 1901 Inc. for $63.0 million in an all-cash transaction. The deal, which closed effective immediately, brings the Wisconsin-based mechanical contractor under Limbach’s full ownership, adding a century-old union shop with more than 400 employees and annual sales volume exceeding $120 million to its portfolio.
1901 Inc., formerly known as H&H Industries, traces its roots to 1901 as W.J. Hyland, a small plumbing and pipe fitting business in Madison, Wisconsin. Over 120 years, it has grown into a full-service provider of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) systems for commercial, institutional, and industrial projects. The company operates under ongoing labor agreements with the Steamfitters, Plumbers, Sheet Metal Workers, Electricians, and Operators unions, and maintains on-site prefabrication and manufacturing facilities that support projects of varying scale.
Limbach, a national building systems solutions firm, is acquiring 1901 to expand its footprint in the Upper Midwest and strengthen its self-perform capabilities. The acquisition gives Limbach access to 1901’s established union workforce, fabrication capacity, and BIM-based drafting and project management tools. For 1901, joining Limbach provides access to broader capital resources and a larger geographic platform, while retaining its local brand and operational leadership.
The transaction is expected to contribute immediately to Limbach’s revenue base, given 1901’s steady project pipeline and long-standing client relationships. Limbach plans to integrate 1901’s prefabrication operations into its existing supply chain, potentially reducing material costs across combined projects. No changes to 1901’s current labor agreements or management structure have been announced.
The combined entity will operate with a stronger presence in the commercial and industrial MEP sector, particularly in the Midwest. Limbach’s financial backing and 1901’s century of execution experience position the merged company to pursue larger, more complex contracts while maintaining the service quality that has defined both firms.
