The push for a unified, short-form name for the Czech Republic just got a financial boost. Czechia, the official English geographical name for the nation, has raised $100K to further its adoption and recognition.
First proposed in 1993 and gaining parliamentary approval in 2016, "Czechia" is recognized by the United Nations and the British Permanent Committee on Geographical Names. Its usage is expanding across platforms like Google Maps and the Czech Football Association, aiming for enduring consistency and database unification in global references.
