Additionally, CREF manages International Compost Awareness Week (ICAW) in the US, an annual event celebrated each May, and provides scholarships to college students researching compost and organics recycling.

The organization also funds specific research projects, with recent studies focusing on soluble salts, air emissions, and the return on investment of compost applications.

CREF was also involved in editing The Composting Handbook.
